Starbuggered
Your first look at a brand new model for Red Dwarf XI!
27 May, 2016
We're still several months away from Red Dwarf XI hitting screens on Dave - but as the post-production process rolls on, you could be forgiven for wondering exactly what's going on behind the scenes, and hoping for just a tiny glimpse of something exciting and Dwarfy to tide you over while you wait. So it's a good job, then, that we've got such a thing for you.
Yes, we're delighted to present the first official photo of the new Starbug, which will be seen throughout both new series. The classic transport vehicle, first seen in Series III, is spruced up and raring to go - which is why, in true Red Dwarf tradition, it's also been promptly crashed and battered. And if you're wondering where you've seen that broken leg before, well, a tweet from a certain Doug Naylor last week may now make a lot more sense:

If you're worried about the poor 'bug looking the worse for wear, however, then don't be too concerned - let's just say we have contingency plans in place. But that's all we can really tell you right now. In the meantime, though, that's not the only new model that will be seen on screen in the autumn - as... well, just get a load of this:
Yes, that's a new Red Dwarf model. But it's not designed to replace the existing one (which has been in service since being built for the Remastered project in the late '90s, and was chopped down to size and refurbished for use in Series X) - instead, this is a "bigature", built specifically for certain close-up shots (hence why it's not actually an entire ship's worth - we couldn't fit it in the studio, if it was!) The model takes a third of the previous model, and enlarges it by a factor of three - which means that when scaled up the main ship, which ain't exactly small, could fit inside it a whopping thirty-six times. Blimey.
Incidentally, if you're across Red Dwarf on social media - that's @RedDwarfHQ on Twitter and the official Facebook page - you may well have seen the second of those images already (but we're sure you'll forgive us showing it again, since it really is smegging lovely). So this is just our little way of informing you that if you're not on social media, you might want to think about starting - since, while we can't guarantee something amazing landing every Friday, it's likely that for the coming weeks and months you'll see new Red Dwarf-related material from ourselves and Dave (@Join_Dave) from time to time. Sometimes it might be a fantastic model image like the above - other times, it might just be something nifty and animated, like this:

Of course, that's not to say you shouldn't keep checking your very own reddwarf.co.uk every Friday as well - as we'll keep bringing you the latest on Red Dwarf and all kinds of lovely exclusives along the way. But it's best to make sure all your bases are covered, right? After all, imagine not seeing that Starbug picture the very moment it had been published...
Red Dwarf XI will air on Dave later in 2016. Red Dwarf XII will follow in 2017!
