After initial budget concerns raised the possibility of Series X being produced without any new, original music, a solution was eventually found that saw the show's original music maestro, Howard Goodall, brought back to score the episodes.

New pieces were created throughout the series, of which perhaps the most memorable were the "heroic" style theme employed in Trojan and during Lister's rescue sequence in Fathers and Suns, and a similarly rousing "victory" piece for the climax of The Beginning.

In addition, however, a number of music cues from the earlier series - some of which hadn't been reused since their very first broadcast - were deployed. The theme variation that had originally underscored Kryten's cleaning montage in Kryten fit perfectly with a similar montage showing the crew assembling the Rejuvenation Shower, while the ominous music that underscored Holly's introductions to Series I also saw re-use as incidental score.
