Costumes

The crew's uniforms were designed to be precisely that, and Rimmer's steadfast insistence on wearing a uniform belonging to a long-dead Space Corps seemed entirely appropriate. The uniform itself featured the name of the wearer and his or her rank. On the left sleeve was the Jupiter Mining Corporation logo (which would later crop up on the side of the remastered Blue Midget). A black crew T-shirt was also developed featuring the logo on the left breast.

Lister was given a collection of grotty T-shirts and combat trousers to wear. Most interesting of all were the Mugs Murphy T-shirts (which featured the slogan D-D-Don't Shoot!). Mugs was going to be a recurring cartoon image, and there is a brief snippet playing on the cinema screen in Me2, although the idea was eventually abandoned in favour of more familiar, 'real' cultural icons such as Wilma Flintstone.

The Cat's first, remarkable suit was a pink number, the cut of which was based on a black suit owned by Danny John-Jules' father. Holly, meanwhile, was created by the high-tech method of putting Norman Lovett into a black polo-neck jumper. Additional character costumes were mostly made up of what the BBC already had to offer - for example the Paranoia suit and garish Confidence outfit... although he did also have his teeth painted white.
