Remastering

The eagle-eyed in the audience immediately noticed that Hattie's version of Holly had replaced Norman for the Remastered edition's standardised title sequence to avoid confusion. The end credits also took a tweak on Backwards with the credits printed on screen back to front.

New additions to the model footage for season three were everywhere. The time hole was given a Stargate-referencing wormhole effect and CGI of Blue Midget - and often Starbug - replaced the existing models, both in the escape from Red Dwarf in Marooned and, to a far greater extent, for the Bodyswap chase sequence. The CGI Midget now chased Starbug through claustrophobic caverns.

Video effects helped to mend some of the gaps in the original budget, as Starbug found itself placed in Backwards' cloaking sequence - complete with Predator-esque background distortion. And tighter editing, plus a quick video 'woosh', covered some of the problems caused by a certain snake. (The fate of the Polymorph's companion was added as a caption to the end of the episode, putting a stop to years of fan debate.)

New footage and dialogue was inserted here and there, extending the last shot of Bodyswap as well as returning an earlier comment from a bathing Rimmer, and in Timeslides the rich Lister's statue finally urinated into the courtyard (only water, though, not champagne). Plus, of course, there were the usual sound and picture clean-ups - including a new voice for Mrs Rimmer which was more in-keeping with her, ahem, sordid reputation.
